Classic drinks like lemonade and iced tea are great for helping you beat the summer heat, but some occasions call for a drink that’s a little more special. If you’re looking for something new to perk up your next barbecue or picnic, try one of these refreshing summer drink recipes:
Blackberry Sage Cooler
Bring 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar to a boil while stirring constantly. When all the sugar has dissolved remove the mixture from heat and stir 10 to 15 crushed fresh sage leaves into the syrup. Allow the sage to infuse the syrup for approximately 20 minutes then strain out the leaves. Mix 8 ounces of blackberry juice and 8 ounces of club soda with 1 tablespoon of sage syrup and stir. Serve over ice and garnish with fresh berries and a sage leaf.
Dissolve 1 package of powdered lemonade mix into 3 quarts of white grape juice. Add 1 thinly sliced lemon and 1 peeled and sliced cucumber. Allow the mixture to chill for at least 30 minutes and serve over ice.
Use miniature ice-cube trays to freeze colorful fruit juices such as blueberry, cranberry, apple, orange, lemon and lime. Place a variety of the small cubes into a glass of clear soda. As the ice melts, the color and flavor of the soda changes. Kids love this one!
